Stay tuned..

Before I can taper those 4 leg blanks..
I need to mill a bead..tools needed..
[attachment=54804]
Stanley No. 80, to smooth things out a bit...and rig up a jig to hold each leg still...then..
[attachment=54805]
The #66 is to clean up after the Stanley #45 mills a bead...left hand quirk is not used...
[attachment=54806]
Then rotate to form the other half of the bead...
[attachment=54807]
4 done..4 to go..
[attachment=54808]
Marking the top ends with a couple "T"s...for Tapers.

Had a bandsaw blade was getting too dull, time to replace it..
[attachment=54809]
And lay out for the first cuts..
[attachment=54810]
Figured the width of the table apron..add 1"..make a mark...down at the "foot" leave 1" as the foot...connect the 2 points with a straight edge..cut on the bandsaw trying to just leave the line...
[attachment=54811]
Save the cut-off.  Use it to lay out the 2nd taper's cut lines...
[attachment=54812]

Repeat the above for the other 3 legs..
[attachment=54813]
All beaded, and tapers rough cut...next?

Will involved a few hand planes..
Stay tuned..

RE: Will just have to wait a bit.. - bandit571 - 06-07-2025

Ok, tried to use the No.6c to smooth off the tapers...was a bit too long...so..
[attachment=54819]
I hit all the speed bumps with the Ohio No. 0-5 Jack plane,,then smoothed that down with the Stanley No. 4-1/2c, Type 11..
[attachment=54820]
Until all the bumps, dips and saw marks were erased...one more step...
[attachment=54821]
There are 3 corners that do not have a bead..the block plane made a round over along each of those...followed up with some 220 grit sandpaper...and a pass or 2 with the Stanley No. 80.  Once both tapers are smoothed down..set aside and do the next leg..and the next leg, and then the last leg..
[attachment=54822]
Swept the shop floor, cleaning up all the shavings...90 minutes IN the shop

Took today off from the shop..had Yard Sales to go out and raid....Try again tomorrow, to get the top of the table cleaned up and as flat as I can...
[attachment=54823]
As I removed the 3 Pipe clamps the other day...but, not the cauls and their clamps, just yet...trying to decide whether to trim the top to final length before or after I get the thing flat..we'll see.  Allow for bread board ends, too...

RE: Will just have to wait a bit.. - bandit571 - 06-08-2025

All clamps and cauls came off this morning...clamped the panel to the top of the tablesaw,,,Thought THIS might work to level down the glue joints..
[attachment=54835]
Was NOT impressed...so Olde School..
[attachment=54836]
Ohio No. 0-5 Jack Plane...did the diagonals across the grain, then went with the grain...

I no longer have a Beltsander, so...the Random Orbit one was doing the job...dusted off (and out) my Dad's Old Craftsman "Finishing Sander"..
[attachment=54837]
Was set on In-line. used 80 grit paper and went to work...then switched it to Orbital....still have some bumps/humps to level out, so..
[attachment=54838]
I had just "Picked" this the other day...gave it a tune up ...a test drive on Soft Maple...then off to the Ash it went..
[attachment=54839]
Not too bad...had BOTH faces to do...Best one will be the "Show Face"...
[attachment=54840]

I WAS going to go ahead and trim the panel's ends square...but, I was a wee bit worn out...Maybe tomorrow, eh?
Stay tuned..

Bandit

While glueing on the stool make sure you do not sit in glue to long or you will have to go upstairs and have your wife help you eject from your pants.

Will post an up-date this afternoon to get this all caught up...have 5 more Mortises to chop, first..
[attachment=54855]
Stay tuned..

RE: Will just have to wait a bit.. - bandit571 - 06-11-2025

So..panel needs squared up, and cut to length...and add a bread board end...
[attachment=54860]
Rip Fence from the Tablesaw, also acts as a Guide for the Circular Saw..
[attachment=54861]
Both edges have been squared up...can set the panel aside for a bit...
[attachment=54862]
Tablesaw to cut and rip the 4 sides to size..and 2 pieces..
[attachment=54863]
To be the bread board ends...need to mill a tongue on each end of the panel..
[attachment=54864]
Nothing to it...4 passes were needed..Took longer to set up, than to make the cuts..
[attachment=54865]
As the bit has it's own guide...next?
[attachment=54866]
Needed to mill a matching groove...then do a dry fit..
[attachment=54867]
Then 3 clamps and some glue...
[attachment=54868]
And set it aside for a few days...
Stay tuned...

I used the underside of the panel, to cut the aprons to final lengths...2 long sides, a short Back and a front for the drawer...Then figured out the tenons..and milled those..
[attachment=54869]
Took some fussing, to get the blade the right height...tenons were to be 1/4" x 1/2" ...nibbled away until I hit the fence...then stand the part up..
[attachment=54870]
And clip the corners off...needed 6 tenons, total..
[attachment=54871]
There was an issue, though..
[attachment=54872]
Seems there was a small "tab" left behind..we have ways..
[attachment=54873]

I like to add a bead along the bottom edges of table aprons...kind of goes with the bead on the legs....but, I only need this much of a bead made..
[attachment=54874]
Long sides were done...then re-arrange the jig a bit..
[attachment=54875]
And the back apron was done.

Next task?  Mortises to house the Tenons I just made..

Stay tuned..

I have a jig, to chop Mortises with..
[attachment=54886]
Sits right over the top of a bench's leg...No Bounce allowed...tools?
[attachment=54887]
Just the usual suspects..
[attachment=54888]
Laid out, using the tenons as a guide. Set the #77 to match the Tenons..
[attachment=54889]
Visegrips to clamp a part into the jig, and a scrap to support the far (toe) end..Dry Fit?
[attachment=54890]
First one done...then..
[attachment=54891]
#2 is done...
[attachment=54892]
#3 is done...then..
[attachment=54893]
#4 done,,,do the last 2  apron to leg mortise, and try a dry fit..
[attachment=54894]
The one end will get a drawer...and will need different "Mortises"  (sliding dovetails below, half blind above)

So..Next time in the shop?    Drawer Building 101.
Stay tuned..

Needed to mill a few parts, today...before the Drawer can even be started...
[attachment=54895]
Some people go out and BUY drawer guides made of metal....I made mine out of Soft Maple...Resawn down from a 1 x 6 x 6' plank...that had a few knotty issues...Saved a few other choice cuts from that plank....resaws?
[attachment=54896]
Enough that I needed that push stick.   Cut to lengths needed, ripped for width, and then for the thicknesses needed...

Sides and the drawer's back..
[attachment=54897]
That were already resawn to 1/2" thick...were cut to lengths needed...but..
[attachment=54898]
They needed ripped for width, to match the Drawer Front...

Drawer front had been ripped once, to make the lower divider ( will rip for the upper later) then it was crosscut for length...so
[attachment=54899]
For right now?   those 2 sitting on the Shop Stool?   They will be cut to make the 4 Corner Braces.

Made a big mess on the floor today..
[attachment=54900]
So...come Quitting Time...
[attachment=54901]
I moved the Tablesaw back to it's Home Station....swept the floor, and set the base back into it's own spot in the shop, with the drawer front in place...

Next time in the Shop?    Install the 2 dividers and then see about a glue up of the base...then I can better size the drawer parts, and build the drawer to fit...
Stay tuned
