1/2" soft maple makes nice drawer sides. It's strong,stable and easy to cut with a hand saw. I've made them with poplar and soft maple. I prefer soft maple.

Has your dovetailer got room for backer boards? 1/8 or 1/4

I used to have Leigh DT jig, but as previously mentioned you get blow out with jigs. I changed over to 100% hand cut DT. Takes a little practice but you'll apprechiate the results. Not to mentiion the satisfaction of hand cutting them.
