  small freezer
Posted by: Cooler - 01-04-2016, 09:33 AM - Forum: Home Improvement - Replies (7)

Chest freezers usually have a lock built in and I put a childproof lock on my freezer (upright) just to make sure everyone closes the door, as it did not have a lock. Should be no problem in the garage.

  really hard red oak
Posted by: Cooler - 01-04-2016, 09:00 AM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (4)

It could have mineral streaks in it.
It could be case hardened from the kiln drying.
With an oddball darker color, I wouldn't have used it on a face frame with the other lighter wood.

Hey Tony Z.....

It's 4:00 in the morning here, and I am just now getting hit by the Patina anticipation....That show is a wild ride.

This is my $35 Bedrock 606 from a couple years ago.....I talked him down from $40.....Oh yeah...

  More basket weave info.

I did notice his work before he died in the Woodturning design magazine and it always liked like he beaded the whole front and then sectioned off everything and colored the spaces as he chose.

I always wanted to do that someday.

Thank you for showing us.

Google the question.

1It's a favorite of turners and it's been heavily covered on other forums. I've seen coverage on wood central. Amazon sells the inlace kits.

  cracked mallet
Posted by: RichK - 01-03-2016, 08:11 PM - Forum: Woodworking - Replies (6)

I would NOT add epoxy to the cracks. If anything, it will make them worse.

Looks to me like it was turned when still a bit green and the cracks appeared as it dried. My guess is that they have been there for a lot of years.

Use it and enjoy it, compare today's photos with the mallet as you use it to make sure they are not propagating.

  waterlox question
Posted by: Demps - 01-03-2016, 07:26 PM - Forum: Finishing - Replies (3)

I've never used Waterlox, but that doesn't sound normal. I think it either reacted with the plastic or O2 that migrated through the plastic. When I transfer Arm-R-Seal to a smaller container I always use glass, and it doesn't turn color no matter how long I leave it in the glass as long as it remains full.

#2 bench plane as a smoother?
Posted by: Mike Brady - 01-03-2016, 07:01 PM - Forum: Woodworking Hand Tools - Replies (7)

I read that also. I also read of one reply-er who is using a Sargent 407, which I use also . It is a longer plane than a Stanley or LN #2. Anyway I'm fortunate that I haven't restricted myself to fitting everything I use into a chest.
